“Oh well, that’s a relief to here. She’s a strong girl. I’m sorry that I’m not able to be down there with her as often as I’d like. But unfortunately, some of the kingdom business comes first.” He paused for a moment, watching Eugene’s movements before continuing on, “We’re just quite thankful that you’re there for her.”
He dragged his finger across the globe making it do a full rotation before he refocused on his future father-in-law. “Well I don’t think too many things could stop me from being there for her sir. I just hate myself for not being able to prevent what has happened… recently.” He then sat in a chair facing the king and tried his best to hold firm and relaxed eye contact.
“I would hope not.” The king frowned and sighed, “Mr. Fitzherbert. There is no reason for you to hate yourself. Sometimes, things such as these cannot be stopped. You did all that you could, and for that, we are grateful for it. If anything, I should be the one at fault. Our security is obviously lacking, and it should have been fixed earlier. Then none of this would have happened.”
“Hmm…” Eugene wasn’t sure if he believed him when he implied that he didn’t blame him. He couldn’t over-examine him though, being the king and all. “It did seem a little too easy for the attacker to get to Rapunzel, I know all about breaching securities and such from my past history as a common thief..” his throat was getting tighter as he began to talk about his past. “It’s all speculation on my part… but in order to get as close as they did, they were either very skilled or they probably had some inside help.” Eugene’s could swear his insides were turning. He hoped the king wouldn’t take offense to him questioning the loyalties of the royal guards.
“Do you think there was a slight chance that there was inside help? It’s hard to see the possibilities of that. I don’t see why anyone would have reason to harm my daughter like that.” The King pondered on what Eugene had said. He knew that the boy knew the outs and ins of the castle more than anyone, “Seeing as you are quite skilled with getting in and out of here unnoticed, perhaps you’d like to assist us in tightening security? You could inform us of the easiest places to slip through, and other spots grant access without our knowledge. That way, we could get more guards stationed. Of course, you don’t have to if you wish. But it would be greatly appreciated. We can’t have this happening again. Because next time, we might not be as lucky.”

strayedtothelight replied to your post: Eugene knocked at the modest doors of the King’s study, opening the doors slowly he murmured “Good evening Your Majesty.” He was still a tad uncomfortable around Rapunzel’s parents but he was trying to make a good effort towards getting to know them the best he could.

The King looked up from his work once hearing the knock. He granted permission for them to enter, sincerely hoping that it wasn’t some guard to come and bother him. He put down his papers once seeing that it was just Eugene. The King stood up, giving him a slight smile, “Good evening to you as well, Mr. Fitzherbert.” He cleared his throat before gesturing to one of the chairs, “Take a seat, lad. What can I help you with?”
